OpenStudy (anonymous):

when an object falls in air,the resistance by the air depends on the weight of the object. Is it right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think it is the density

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it does read the portion under velocity of fallinf body see the m power 1/2 realtion there http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_(physics)

OpenStudy (ghazi):

air resistance is a property of area, it depends how much area is being occupied by the object in the fluid and then how much drag force is generated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 different anwers

OpenStudy (ghazi):

and if you take an example let's say you have an object of mass m and area A and another object of mass m and area 2A , then there is no function of mass , fluid resistance depends how lesser is the area and how least is the generated drag force. and that is what studied in aero dynamics where prime focus is least drag force

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

Air drag depends on shape of the object and relative velocity with air. That's all!

OpenStudy (shane_b):

@Vincent-Lyon.Fr and @ghazi have the correct answer. Air resistance (drag) is not dependent on mass of the object. Remember Galileo's famous experiment?
