OpenStudy (anonymous):

an investor invested a total of $1,700 in two mutual funds. One fund earned a 7% profit while the other earned a 4% profit. If the investor's total profit was $86, how much was invested in each mutual fund?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If \(x\) is the amount invested at 7%, then \(1700 - x\) is the amount invested at 4%, right? Since the profit on the amount invested at 7% plus the profit on the amount invested at 4% is 86: \[0.07(x) + 0.04(1700 - x) = 86\] Does that make sense? Can you take it from there?
