Which line is a graph of the equation 2x + 5y = 10? Identify the x- and y-intercepts.
Please Help meeeeee
to identify the intercepts you set either x or y = to zero and then solve for the other variable
so if you set x = 0 you get 5y = 10, then divide both sides by 5 and you get y = 2 is the y-intercept, and setting y = 0 in the original equation you get 2x = 10, so the x intercept is 10/2 or 5
Thanks again I think I understand a little more now :D
to find the line you can use the slope intercept form which is y = mx + b, so solving your original equation for y gives... y = (-2/5)x +2
then if you use this equation you can draw the graph by starting on the y-axis at 2 (which is the y -intercept) and use the slope (-2/5), so from y=2 you go down 2 units and go to the right 5 units
