Evaluate sin 60° without using a calculator by using ratios in a reference triangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

form a right triangle with sides a, b and c so that the hypotenuse (c) is length 2; |dw:1354753411253:dw| we fill in the triangle this way because we know that \[a ^{2}+b ^{2}=c ^{2}\] now, sin 60º=(opposite side of the triangle)/(hypotenuse) = (sqrt3/2) (this can also be shown by using a right triangle drawn on the unit circle and then multiplying all sides by 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so sqrt 3/2 is equal to sin 60degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, (sqrt3)/2

okay thank you very much ryclark
