I'm trying to teach myself calculas and just had a question about definite integral. Can anyone explain the ways of solving the definite integral by Riemann sums, using areas, an using fundamental theorem of Calculus? Are there advantages to each one?

OpenStudy (slaaibak):

Trust me, you don't want to use the riamann sums method. It's long and tedious. The best is to use the FTC to solve. Much faster

OpenStudy (amistre64):

learning Reimann gives you a solid foundation to play on; otherwise you tend to just be mimicing stuff with no real knowledge about it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the Reimann can be determined by left, right or midpoints; or even random stuff but its best to keep things organized in my opinion

OpenStudy (amistre64):

take a function and an interval|dw:1354836936432:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and split it up into so many partitions, subintervals, of equal length (for convenience) |dw:1354837010756:dw|
