Generally speaking, parametric equations are a set of functions that are linked by common variables. Something like:\[f(x,y,z)= x^2+y^2+z^2\]\[g(x,y,z)=xyz\]\[h(x,y,z)=xy+yz+xz\]There are three functions, and the x, y, z are the parameters that change the values of the functions. The technique of finding a new parameterization can help solve other problems. For example, if you have a curve on the plane, normally you will be given a two variable equation to describe it (think, two parameters, x, and y). But since a curve is really "one-dimensional", you should only need one parameter to describe it. So you re-parameterize the curve in one variable (maybe t).
