Ok, well, if we start with the first equation we can solve for e:\[e=2-d\]Substitution is where we solve for one variable in one equation, and then substitute that into another equation. So since we found e=2-d from the first equation, in the second equation replace e with 2-d, and see what you get for d. Then you can use e=2-d to find out what e is.
