Divide (15 x^3 - 27 x^2 + 2 x - 1) by (5 x - 4) using long division.

Hello there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So. I tried entering 3x^2+3x as my answer, but it seems that's wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am working it out, so I can tell you in a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awrighty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 3x^2-3x-2 with a remainder of -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would seem you're right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

simply just divide like you would in a regular problem. BUT make sure ur 5x will go into the first one. So if you do times 5 for the first variable you would do it the same for the second. answer is 3x^2-3x-2 with remainder -9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol u beat me katy i was double checking my work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Why is the second term negative? And where does the -2 come from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me try and draw it for you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. I'd greatly appreciate that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Algebra 2 trig student correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Um...the equivalent of Alg. 2, I guess...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm in Pre-Cal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Be proud you're far better at math than me ;)
