Is the term (x + 1) a factor of the polynomial shown below? x^3-10x^2+27x-12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And what is the remainder if there is one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have NO idea how to do that. Ive tried and tried. Im doing my online test now. Do you want to see the different answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, read one of the pages. It is very easy to understand. We aren't allowed to help you with tests on this site anyway. You're on your own.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

try dividing x+1 to x^3-10x^2+27x-12, if you do not get any remainder then it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does it mean to be a factor? how do you determine if it is? im working the problem out now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a factor means that if you break up the number you can multiply the it altogether and get the answer all over again example: 2*1 is a factor of 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):
