Find the difference: 11/w - 5/w

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Stumped on this would it be 6?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

No.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

What if w=3?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Similar problem 8/x - 5/x (8-5)/x 3/x So 8/x - 5/x simplifies to 3/x

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

6/w actually

OpenStudy (anonymous):

w=3 would make 11/3 and 5/3 So if I'm right which I suck with fractions so I'm not 3 goes into 11 3 times so it would be 3 2/3?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

@Faralen your answer of 6 is only true when w=1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm really bad at math if you can't tell haha XD Okay can you explain it a bit? I'll try to work it out with your help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait so from jim_thompson5910 11/w - 5/w it would be 11-5/w so 6/w ?
