Amy and Mike are going to an amusement park. They each bought ice cream, and Mike got a soda. Amy had a $10 coupon to put toward the cost, and Mike paid the rest, which came to $30.25. Admission for one person costs $18.00, and ice cream costs $1.50. How much does a soda cost at the amusement park? $1.25 $1.50 $0.75 $2.10

1.25

Thank you ^_^

I agree :) Two admissions at $18 each: $36 Two ice creams at $1.50 each : $3 ------------------------------ Total so far $39 Minus $10 from Amy leaves $29 for Mike to pay for just admissions and ice creams... but Mike also bought a soda and paid $30.25 total, so he must have paid an extra $1.25 for the soda.

Oh yea now I see, thanks for breaking it down for me that helped me out alot :)

You're welcome, glad to help. If you're doing algebra, you could also set it up that way: 2 admissions + 2 ice creams + 1 soda - $10 from Amy = Total paid by Mike 2 * 18 + 2 * 1.50 + x - 10 = 30.25 And then simplify and solve for x, the price of a soda. It would be the same thing though... just another way to set it up.
