7. A study reported that in a random sampling of 100 women over the age of 35 showed that 8 of the women were married 2 or more times. Based on the study results, how many women in a group of 5,000 women over the age of 35 would likely be married 2 or more times? A. 55 B. 150 C. 200 D. 400 E. 600

OpenStudy (noseboy908):

because 8/100 women originally said that they married 2x, take 5000/.08 (or 5000/8%)

Unless this is a trick question . . . :-) I'd compare the first sample (n = 100) and the second (n = 5,000). This is a proportion problem. The second sample is 50 times larger, so the number of women over 35 married two times or more should also be 50 times larger. Or 50 X 8 = 400 So I'd answer "D." Hope that helps?
