2(r^2+1)=5r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any idea how to solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Distribute the 2 first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then i get 2r^2+2=5r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right now get the 5r to the left side and then factor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2r^2-5r+2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get 2r^2-5r+2=0, but there arent any factors of 2 that add up to 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When the coefficient of the x^2 isnt 1 you do the number in front of x^2 times the last number and find factors of that so 2*2=4 -4 and -1 could get -5 and also multiply to get 4. 2r^2-4r-r+2=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(2r-1)(r-2)=0 can you solve from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can solve from here. thank you for your help!
