What is the difference between aerobic respiration, and anaerobic respiration?

OpenStudy (tyteen4a03):

The simple difference: One uses oxygen and the other doesn't. One of the examples of both systems is the muscles' respiration when exercising. When the muscles are exercising, they burn oxygen. However, when there are not enough oxygens, the muscles will carry out anaerobic respiration instead. However, this method is not intended for use for a long time, as this releases Lactic Acid, the substance that makes your muscles feel "sour".

OpenStudy (frostbite):

Minor note: Anaerobic respiration can also be done with other oxidizer and therefore does not necessarily have to perform fermentation like you that you take as an example.

OpenStudy (frostbite):

That could be nitrate or hydrogen sulfide as an example.

AERobic(air) resperation uses air while doing photosynthesis, and ANAerobic respiration doesn't use air.
