Not if you are writing a journal. I use to do it when I wrote proposals and long documents.

Doesn't it seem awky when you are solving an equation? Like:\[\begin{align}x + 3 & = 5. \\ x &= 5 - 3. \\ x &= 2. \end{align}\]

I guess it's not a big deal but personally I'm reminded of the idea that writing unnecessary things in math is a big no no.
