its a real rational root
thanks! but can you tell me why? i solves it and got -3 ....can you tell me how to determine what it is?
The Discriminant: The expression in the square root, D = b^2 - 4ac , is called the discriminant, because its value can be used to discriminate between the different types of solutions that are possible: D > 0 results in two real solutions: If D is a perfect square (like 4, 9 64, 100, etc.) then you get two rational solutions. If D is a not perfect square then you get two irrational solutions.
the discriminant value of ax^2+bx+c=0 always D=b^2-4ac for this case, x^2-5x-4=0 it means, a=1, b=-5, c=-4 can u determine the value of disciminant (D) = ... it is a start
D=41
