Start with the graph of x. you know that the the graph is x is a line. You know that because:

y = mx + b.

Now, you have 3x + 13.
and you know that b = y-coordinate. So that means you're shifting 3x UP by 13 units on the y-axis.

Same with the 2nd function, it's a linear function. Except now you're not adding , your subtracting, meaning negative, shifting your line negatively on the y-axis.

where m = slope
b = y coordinate
for instance, if I have 3x + 2
then your graph is:

it means 3 (x) + 2
2 is y so 2 shifted UP two.
if it was -2, then I would of shifted the line DOWN two.
