ice cubes in water and explain why it is either a homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, do you know what the difference between a homogeneous and heterogeneous mixture is? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha that's probably not very helpful then. A homogeneous mixture is a mixture where the components that make up the mixture are uniformly distributed throughout the mixture. Homogeneous mixtures: air, blood, saturated sugar water A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture where the components of the mixture are not uniform or have localized regions with different properties. Heterogeneous mixtures: rocks, oil and water, soup, pizza

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tnx so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, do you have your answer? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya its a heterogeneoues

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good job! I can see why it would be a hard question because they are both a state of H20, but because one is a solid and the other is a liquid, it is a heterogeneous mixture. :) Now... if the ice melts... That's a different story :P Please let me know if you need any more help!

OpenStudy (koikkara):

ok so homogeneous are the ones that are all one peice if that makes sense.... and heterogeneous are the ones that can be separated an have chunks...... food coloring- homo ice cubes in liquid water-hetero.... although may be homo, because they are both H2O..
