I need help solving for y please! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for 4x in the top equation and substitute that in to the second equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to get two y=mx+ b equations, so i can graph them. i'm doing the equation wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh sure, that's another way. Just solve for y in both equations then. In the top one, divide by 3 on both sides. In the bottom one, add 4x on both sides then divide by -4 on both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you divide both the slope and b/y intercept by the -4 and 3?

OpenStudy (phi):

for the 1st equation 3y= 4x+7 divide both sides by 3 (that means all terms are divided by 3) \[ \frac{\cancel{3}y}{\cancel{3}}= \frac{4x+7}{3} \] \[ y= \frac{4}{3}x + \frac{7}{3} \]

OpenStudy (phi):

for the 2nd equation, first add +4x to both sides then divide both sides by -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's what i got, but i started pluging number in to get one of the options, nothing worked...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you please try plugging numbers in to find one of the options at the top? or give me numbers to plug in please?

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, but first, what did you get for the 2nd equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y=-1x+7

OpenStudy (phi):

how did you get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by adding -4x to the other side, then dividing by -4; y=4x+28/-4; y=-1+7

OpenStudy (phi):

looks good except 28/-4 is not +7 you should get y= -1x - 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do i get one of the options above? like what numbers should i put in the equations????

OpenStudy (phi):

you have 2 equations y= (4/3)x + 7/3 and y = -x -7 one way to find where they meet is sketch the lines to get an idea where they cross or pick some numbers for x and find y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i tried that, for some reason it's not workingg:(
