Okay. See that little number, slightly raised up? That's what you call a power. That 2 right there is written normally, but is still called a special name: a base. Specifically, that whole thing is telling you to take the 3rd power of 2. Now, what does that mean? Well, a power means you multiply the base by the number of times it tells you to. For example, anything to the second power (this is called squaring) means you multiply it by itself. The second power of 3 is...\[3^2 = 3*3 = 9\] So, what is this? \[5^4\] Well, that's 5 to the fourth power, which is \[5*5*5*5 = 625\] So, do you get this now? If so, can you tell me what the third power of 2 is? (Hint: What is 2*2*2?)
