If you isolated y in the first equation to use the Substitution Method, what expression would you substitute into the second equation???? 4x − y = 8 2x + 3y = 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you isolated the y in the 1st eq. then just sub into the second eq. for y

?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

4x - y = 8 -> y = 4x - 8, right? (add y to both sides, subtract 8 from both sides) Now take the second equation and substitute 4x - 8 wherever you see y. That should give you an equation only in terms of x which you can solve to find the value of x. Having done that, plug that value of x into y = 4x - 8 to find that value of y.
