When y = 3, which of the following is FALSE? A. y is prime and y is odd B. y is odd or y is even C. y is not prime and y is odd D. y is odd and 2y is even

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Odd numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, ... Prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, ... If you have two statements connected with "and," both statements need to be true for the compound statement to be true. If you have two statements connected with "or," only one statement needs to be true for the compound statement to be true.

So How do I answer it @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Look at each choice and see if it is true or false. A. y is prime: TRUE y is odd: TRUE connection is "and". Both statements are true, so entire statement is TRUE B. y is odd: TRUE y is even: FALSE connection is "or". Only one statement needs to be true for statement to be true, so entire statement is TRUE C. y is not prime: FALSE y is odd: TRUE connection is "and". Both statements need to be true for entire statement to be true, but first part is false, so entire statement is FALSE D. y is odd: TRUE 2y is even: TRUE (2 times any whole number is even) connection is "and" and both parts are true, so entrie statement is TRUE.
