What does United Steelworkers of America v. Weber (1979) rule?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

The courts decision reserved (agreed) with lower courts' rulings in favor of Brian Weber. This case deals with affirmative action. Weber was a white guy, and the company he worked for had a policy of allowing whites and blacks in a training program on a one on one basis. Weber had more seniority then a lot of the blacks that were accepted into the program , and he was not accepted. Weber claimed that violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The company and the union argued it was pursuing affirmative action to remedy historical disadvantages among blacks. The Supreme Court ruled that the Affirmative Action Plan was unlawful.
