Well now I don't remember with the full detales but this is how you could do it: you take your DNA/plasmid you want to insert in the bacteria and put them in the same solution. Using frost, heat or electronical shock the cell will take in the plasmid. Ones inside there is the posibility that it will integrate the plasmid with its DNA. Becuase there are a lot of cells and only some of them have new plasmid integrated in its DNA it would be smart to make a selection, this can be done by a enzyme who make resistance against something, like ampicillin (Bla gene). By using the that technique we can place all the bacteria on a argae plate with ampicillin and only them with the wish DNA is able to live. You can then see you have done a perfect transformation.

You can also put a flourences gene insted just to be extra sure... like GFP (Green Flouricent Protein)
