How many units apart are the points (4, -3) and (-4, 3)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Use the distance formula:\[d = \sqrt{(x _{2}- x _{1})^{2}+ (y _{2}- y _{1})^{2}}\] Where: \[X _{1}= 4\] \[X _{2}= -4\] \[Y _{1}=-3 \] \[Y _{2}= 3\] Now plug it all in, what do you get?

Come on, does it seem reasonable that they are 100 points apart, when all of the coordinates are single digit numbers?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

What did you forget to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square root it?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

As my old math teacher used to say, "is that an answer, or a prayer?" :-)
