Help with a few inequalities questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Choose the last step in the given solution to the inequality 6x - 2 < 8x + 4. (inequality has line under)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Choose the missing step in the given solution to the inequality -4x - 10 > 18 - 2x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the first one are you just trying to figure out what to do after?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha maybe i should have read the top..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Emah yeah, after we completed those 3 steps we're supposed to say what the last one is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok... then you would just divide by -2. giving you x on one side and 3 on the other..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Emah so it would be x < 3 (line under inequality)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6x-2<8x+4 -2x-2<4 -2x<6 Last step you divide by -2. Whenever you divide by a negative the sign flips. So.. -2/-2x<6/-2 x>-3 Hope this helped. :o)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Almost, but whenever you divide by a negative( or multiply) you have to flip the sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i see, thanks for the help. can you help me with the second question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup.. you would then combine the like terms..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do we do that? i've forgotten

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -4x-10>18-2x +2x +2x -2x-10>18 +10 +10 -2x>28

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then we divide by 2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative 2 yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Have you got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x - 10 < 18 -2x - 10 > 18 -10 > 18 - 2x 10 < 18 + 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there are different options? I thougt u were just trying to figure out what the missing part was and waht the last one was .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we are, those are the answer choices
