I'm rusty on logs... Is the following allowed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2^{11}-4x=8^{4x}+1\]Take the log base 2 of both sides. So I want to apply it to each term. Is this allowed?\[\log_22^{11}-\log_24x=\log_28^{4x}+\log_21\]

hartnn (hartnn):

nopes, not allowed....\[\ log (A \pm B)\ne \log A \pm \log B\]

thx. The first lin of my post is a question I was going to help somebody with. Can I bring you into their question? I would like to see it solved myself as well
