Why are systematic names preferred over common names? (1 point) Common names do not provide information about the chemical composition of the compound. Common names are derived from the method used to obtain the compound. Common names were assigned by the scientist who discovered the compound. Common names are not very descriptive.

Well, they're not, in fact. Chemists generally only use systematic names when they publish, to be absolutely unambiguous about what molecule they mean -- which means the last is the answer you want. But otherwise, and in daily conversation, they will use the common names, because they're a heck of a lot less unwieldy.
