write a polynomial function in standard form with the given zeros. x=1,-1,-2 please give me the steps

OpenStudy (anonymous):

work backwards from solving a polynomial for x, if a zero is 1 that means a factor is (x-1) -1 is a zero then (x+1) is a factor and for -2 (x+2) is a factor so expanding (x-1)(x+2)(x+1) will give you the polynomial

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what else do i do i got stuck there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

foil it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i never heard of foil

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply it out, do you know how to multiply (x-1)*(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok do that, then multiply your answer by (x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i multiplied x+1 and x+2 it gave me xˆ2+x+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help multiply it by x-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 should be negative x^2+x-2 now take every term and multiply it by (x-1) (x^2+x-2)(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why does 2 have to be negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because -1*2=-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now what do you get when you multiply (x^2+x-2)(x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got xˆ3+0-3+2 i think i got it wrong
