thank you very much
OpenStudy (anonymous):
when multiplying by -1 to both sides, you must switch the signs
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I meant -1 from -y**
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so what is the answer?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y>-36

but dont you switch the signs?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
switch the signs when multiplying or dividing by a negative number and when you bring the signs over to the other side.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok, so the answer is y>-36
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-y<36
y>-36

Thank you guys so so so so so so much!
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@completeidiot thanku for letting me know where I went wrong.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now for the explanation
lets say y=1
that would mean
-1<36
now if we multiplied both sides by -1
we would get 1<-36
this is obviously incorrect, which is the reason why switching the sign is important
hero (hero):
-y < 36
add y to both sides; subtract 36 from both sides:
-36 < y
OpenStudy (jiteshmeghwal9):
Divide -1 both sides & reverse the inequality sign :)
