Which inequality has the solution d > 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiple choice d + 4 < 0 d + 2 > 2 d - 4 > 0 d + 2 < 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[d-4>0\] Move the "-4" to the LHS and change the sign to +4" \[d>4\] There's your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That means the third option is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait how did u get the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at what I did in my first comment. Read the statement(s).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's the same as d-4=0 but then you have an inequality sign instead of the equal sign. Sometimes inequality signs can get tricky. But in this case, it's simply imagining that the inequality sign is an equal sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d-4=0. What does d equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To solve that step by step, wouldn't you move the -4 to the other side? (even though you can mentally solve that in your head)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You just have to solve all of them and figure out which one matches. d + 4 < 0 -4 -4 d<-4 d + 2 > 2 -2 -2 d>0 d - 4 > 0 +4 +4 d>4 d + 2 < 2 -2 -2 d<0 So d>4 would be d-4>0 Hope that makes sense :o)

If you were given these choices, you wouldn't need to solve them all one by one. If you were given these choices, all you have to do is look at the inequality signs. If the inequality sign does not match the inequality sign in your question, then that choice is eliminated. It will be between the second choice or the third choice. Now look at the number. The second choice has the number "2", while the third option has the number "4". Which number matches the number in your question? Obviously the number 4. That means the third option is the correct choice.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That can be another way of solving this. NOTE: This only works with adding and subtracting. If it comes to dividing and multiplying with the inclusion of negative numbers, then it becomes a whole different ball game.

okay thnx
