3x-4y=12 for Y ....

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

what are you asking to do? express the equation in y = ... ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The instructions are: Solve each formula for the specified variable. 3x-4y=12 solve for y

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

ok.. you have equation 3x - 4y = 12 and you'are asking to state this equation in y = ..... you need to 'put' the y-variable in one side and other terms in another side... 3x - 4y = 12 I'll put the y-variable in the left side and other terms in the right side.., what should I do so that there is only '-4y' in the left side ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4y=3x+12

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

hou do you get it? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have no idea.. i am so confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do I divide both sides now by 3... thus giving y=4

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

you have equation 3x - 4y = 12 I want to put '-4y' in the left side, while I have '3x-4y' in the left side so I need to 'add (-3x) on both side' 3x - 4y -3x = 12 - 3x 3x - 3x - 4y = 12 - 3x -4y = 12 - 3x can you continue it? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im trying... for all intent and purpose, I ignore the variable 'x' right... so would it be -4y=12/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4y = 4

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

you cannot ignore the variable 'x'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then what do I do next...

OpenStudy (chihiroasleaf):

-4y = 12 - 3x divide both sides by (-4) |dw:1358118577033:dw|
