The density of gasoline is 690kg/m^3 and the density of turpentine is 870kg/m^3 Suppose you find a 5L can that is full of one of these liquids. You do not know which, and the label has fallen off, How could you tell the difference ?

OpenStudy (andrefontex):

mixing a sample from that can with a compound with density near 780 Kg/m^3. If the compound goes down, and the liquid of the can stays up, density of the compound is higher, and then it would be the gasoline with d=690 on top. If the compound went up, above the liquid you want to determine, density is less then that, and the liquid below would be the turpentine

Weigh it and compute the density, of course.
