y2 – 7y + 10 / y -2

OpenStudy (zehanz):

It probably is this:\[\frac{ y^2-7y+10 }{ y-2 }\] (better to use brackets to avoid problems: (y^2-7y+10)/(y-2) Factor the nominator. You'll see that y-2 is a factor. It's also a factor in the denominator: 1*(y-2), so you can divide out y-2.

still not clear on this...

OpenStudy (zehanz):

\[\frac{ y^2-7y+10 }{ y-2 }=\frac{ (y-2)(y-5) }{ (y-2) \cdot 1 }=\frac{ y-5 }{ 1 }=y-5\]
