2t + 8 - t = -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you combine like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no but you can show me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sure: Combining like terms is when you combine (add or subtract) everything that is the same. For an example, you cannot add together 4t+7, because they are not the same, the 4 has a variable (t). How ever, you can combine 6t and 2t, which is 8t, or 2+9, which is 9. Based on that, what can be combined on the left side of the equation?

can you work the problem out

I can help you, but i cant do it for you. I gave you an explanation above, can you work with that, or do you need more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, specifically what kind? Combining like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

everything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

Like i said, combining like terms is when you add or subtract everything that is the same. You cant add 3x and 2 because they arent the same. The 3 has an x with it, while the 2 doesnt. You can add 2x and 1x or you can add 4 and 5. If i had the equation: |dw:1358200974461:dw|
