A mass of 10.0 kg is in a gravitational field of 3.50 N/kg. What force acts on the mass?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just multiply! 3.50 Newton per kg. how much for 10 kg?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what am i multiplying? 3.50x10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the gravitational field is 3.5N/kg .. look at the unit.. what does it say?? field = 3.5N/kg = "the field would put a force of 3.5N for 1 kg of mass" thats the meaning.. hence 1kg ---- exp 3.5N of force 10kg -----exp ? cross multiply .. thats how you work with force fields!

The constant in the question could be described as the local gravitational field - on Earth at around sea level we are used to the constant having a value of 9.8ms-2 or 9.8N/kg.
