What's the object of History?

OpenStudy (zeig_101):

I'm not sure if I understand the question, but from what I understand, the object of History is to learn about the past

The object of history is to learn from the past, and not make the same mistakes in the future....

Well, as I may understand you guys sayin that the object is the "past" itself, but past is time, dont you agree? And to me, "time" cant be the object but a mere distance, or the "path", which the History follows, u understand? kinda confusing I know... Let me be more clear: taking that the OBJECT of a subject, in this case History, is what CONNECTS it, connecting one "episode" from another (e.g. what connects the IIWW from the Great War), time (or "past") couldn't fit, once it doesn't serve as the logic to the subject(History works)... In sum, "time" is not the motor/ the engine of History, but a mere path where History writes itself..
