Why did the Soviet Union and the United States both get involved in proxy wars in Africa during the Cold War? Both governments were focused solely on providing humanitarian aid to the region. Both governments were concerned with the protection of personal liberties and free elections. Both governments wanted to secure their political influence in the region through support. The United Nations requested that both governments intervene to bring about peace.
its either the second one or the last one i think
I'd probably go with the the third answer -- that both governments wanted to secure their political influence in the region through support. That often meant with money, military advisors, or supporting elements that were friendly to their political ideas.
Thanks!!! Which of the following is indicative of social revolution in Afghanistan in the wake of the fall of the Taliban? Under Sharia law, a woman may be stoned for disobeying her husband. Roads leading to warehouses full of unsecured weapons have been blocked. Public executions are occurring with greater frequency in Kabul. Young women are boxing with hopes of making it to the Olympics
Even though I'd go with the third one, trustdestinee's answer also plays into it -- humanitarian aid was sometimes used as a cover by the Soviets or the US in providing assistance to nations that they wanted to be buddies with. It's just another way that both these superpowers were "playing the game" to find friends around the world.
I'd probably say the boxing thing is indicative of the social rev happening over in Afghanistan. Under the Taliban, women's rights were severely hampered under Sharia law. To actually engage in a sport like boxing is a pretty bold move in that post-Taliban world.
Thank you!!!! The organization that claimed to be behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks was Al-Qaeda. What effect did this have on the U.S. response to 9/11? It caused the U.S. to invade Iraq within months of the attack. It caused the U.S. to invade Afghanistan within months of the attack. It caused the U.S. to invade Pakistan within months of the attack. It caused the U.S. to invade Iran within months of the attack.
Definitely the second one -- Afghanistan. It was first in 2001, and then Iraq took place afterwards in 2003.
Thanks!!! To many Israeli Jews Yasser Arafat is viewed as a martyr peacemaker terrorist hero
...terrorist. Arafat and the PLO were both responsible for a number of brutal attacks against Israel and its allies over the years. Even when he attempted to hold out an olive branch, there was still considerable doubt that he was being true to his word.
Thanks!!! With which statement would a supporter of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) most likely agree? Palestine belongs to all who live there the PLO is founded on peaceful protest territories may be peacefully shared western aggression led to Palestinian occupation
This one is kind of tricky. Today, the PLO represents Palestine having recognized Israel (and Israel, in turn, recognizing the PLO as a legitimate representative of Palestine instead of as a terrorist organization). I guess a supporter of the PLO today would say that Palestine belongs to all who live there. But I'm not entirely sure of this answer myself.
Thanks!!! Okay last 3. The War of Terrorism is considered an "invisible war" because invisible gases are used to harm people most nations have ignored threats the enemy is often unknown. it followed the Cold War Fighting in between Northern Ireland and the Republic is primarily rooted in politics and religion physical geography and politics physical geography and economics economics and language Cultural diffusion was most advanced by necessary improvements in medical technology post-World War II occupation and education reform nation rebuilding and multi-national organizations the contact of business people with foreign cultures
