So confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sides with that little line crossing it, are all equal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got that. I don't understand how to calculate x.

OpenStudy (phi):

you have some isosceles triangles. start labeling their angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol sorry I didnt see the second image :$

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like this?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but don't forget the middle triangle. I just started writing equations, eventually I was able to get all the angles in the big triangle as a function of x only.

OpenStudy (phi):

Notice in my picture y is the exterior angle of the bottom triangle, so y= x+x = 2x that means the top angle y+x can be written as 3x now we need to find angle a as a function of x

OpenStudy (phi):

y is the exterior angle if that doesn't mean much, you can write down the 3 angles of the bottom triangle as x+x+ (180-y) = 180 and we get the same thing: y= 2x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh okay. So then z = 180 - 4x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or.....?

OpenStudy (phi):

That is one way. notice the straight line x+z+a =180 so you can find a as a function of x

OpenStudy (phi):

Did you get what a is ?
