i just don't know which one would be k or h in the equation? like is k the one going up or to the side? if that makes sense.

The general form of any rational function is y = a/(x-h) + k the asymptotes of that general function intersect at (h,k)

This is because Horizontal asymptote of y = a/(x-h) + k: x = h Vertical asymptote of y = a/(x-h) + k: y = k
