How do i solve 2y^3+6y=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know the answer, i just don't know how to get it. its annoying getting wrapped up on the algebra in calculus :(

It's pretty hard and ugly to solve this by hand. I guess you can find the answer using calculator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i solve it using my calculator?

geerky42 (geerky42):

Good question, I don't know. I often use Wolfram Alpha to find the answer in a problem like that. Do you literally have to solve this? Are you sure it's isn't 2y^2+6y=1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i'm sure. its a free response- it says prove that (4x-2xy)/(x^2+y^2+1) is the derivative of 2y^3+6x^2y-12x^2+6y=1 anyways i prove that- its part a the second part is write an equation of each horizontal tangent line to the curve so i set the derivative equal to zero x=0 plug it into the original function and now I'm frustrated with y^3
