M(-2, 1) and 0(-3, 2) find the midpoint of the segment with the given endpoints ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The midpoint formula is ((x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure how to do this math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you please expalin it to me not sure what to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

At point M, you have (x1, y1) = (-2, 1) At point O, you have (x2, y2) = (-3, 2). So your midpoint is ( (-2 + (-3))/2, (1 + 2)/2) = (-5/2, 3/2)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

It's very simple. Take the average of the x-coordinates, and that's the x-coordinate of the midpoint. Then take the average of the y-coordinates, and that's the y-coordinate of the y coordinate. To take an average of two numbers, add them up and divide by 2.

i still dont get it

@kellyp73 Look at the graph below. I plotted the two given points. You follow so far? |dw:1359319871072:dw|
