Hey, I really need some help with this word problem (it's in the comments).
During the first and second quarters of the year, a business had sales of $150,000 and $185,000, respectively. If the growth of sales follows a linear pattern, what will sales be during the fourth quarter?
I have absolutely no clue how to start this out... D:
Think of this growth as a line (hence linear). All lines have a slope and the slope of this line would be 35,000 because for every quarter (x-axis), the sales are increasing by 35,000 which would give you a slope of 35,000/1 or just 35,000. If you are trying to find the profits in the fourth quarter you have to move over 2 and up 70,000 from the second quarter (slope times two because you are jumping from 2 to 4 on the x axis). Once you have figured this out you can just add 70,000 to 185,000 to get your answer. Hope that made sense this is my first time answering. Graph below hopefully |dw:1359606405565:dw|
