Well, in maths, a typo leads to misunderstanding and then later on, it will catch up to them in an exam.

It's the same for making a slight mistake during your working. If you make one silly mistake, everything you've done in your working afterwards, will be affected and therefore the wrong answer will be the result and a loss of a few marks.

Process of elimination based on knowing the equation and incorporating all information is your friend. You don't have to plug in the # (t) and do the arithmetic to verify it, to know you answer is right.
