3x^2+1=-4x
Solve? factor?
she wants us to solve by factoring or taking the square root
okay, well fist thing you would do is add the 4x to both sides, so it would be 3\[^{2}\]+4x+1
okay
*3x^2+4x+1 The only factors that they have is 1 and 1 and there are 2 plus signs, so that means there are no negative signs
so it woulf be (3x+1)(x+1)?
Yup, simple right?
yeah, so then the answer would be x= 1?
no, it would be -1, and -1/3 Remember that the equations are x+1=0 and 3x+1=0 so to get x by itself you have to subtract them x=-1 and 3x=-1 Now you would divide by to get x by itself so it would be x=-1/3
okay, i got it
x^2-1=0
Do you like factoring or taking the square root better?
factoring
Okay, so what do you think the factors of this one are? since it's negative it means it had to have a negative and positive number
Like the last problem, it has a 1, so the multiples are 1 and 1, but there is no x value so it has to be (x+1) and (x-1) when factored they equal x^2-x+x-1 The x's would cancel each other out and you would be left with x^2-1
im confused
so the final answer would be x^2-1?
