What are the main parts of the cytoskeleton and what does each do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The cytoskeleton (also CSK) is a cellular scaffolding or skeleton contained within a cell's cytoplasm. The cytoskeleton is present in all cells; it was once thought to be unique to eukaryotes, but recent research has identified the prokaryotic cytoskeleton. It has structures such as flagella, cilia and lamellipodia and plays important roles in both intracellular transport (the movement of vesicles and organelles, for example) and cellular division, and the shape of cells was determined by a network of tubules which he termed the cytoskeleton.

no What are the main parts of the cytoskeleton and what does each do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The CYTOSKELETON is basically everything inside of the cell that helps the cell keep its shape. Take a look at this picture: http://www.uic.edu/classes/bios/bios100/lectures/07_table_3_cytoskeleton-L.jpg It shows us the three main parts of a cell's cytoskeleton, and their functions. 1. Actin filaments 2. Intermediate filaments 3. Microtubules
