OpenStudy (bekkah323):

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores are normally distributed with a mean of 500 points and a standard deviation of 100 points. Suppose you take the SAT and several weeks later you receive a letter telling you that your results on the math portion of the test were in the 95th percentile.Recalling that SAT scores are always expressed as multiples of 10, how many points did you get on the test?

Directrix (directrix):

What is the z-score that goes with .95 on the area under the standard normal curve chart? We need that to complete the following equation: (x - 500)/100 =____

OpenStudy (bekkah323):

I'm not sure i follow?

Directrix (directrix):

Look at the attachment. Have you used that sort of device in math class? Or, have you seen it in your book?

OpenStudy (bekkah323):

i think iv seen it once.

Directrix (directrix):

Do you take notes in class? I'm just wondering if you have any practice problems or teacher presented problems in your notebook?

OpenStudy (bekkah323):

i do school online. i wrote down a formula that says z-score. if that's what your talking about.

Directrix (directrix):

(x - 500)/100 = 1.65 Solve this equation for x, and let's see what pops up.

Directrix (directrix):

Cross Multiply.
