A characteristic of a substance that involves the transformations the substance can undergo to produce a different substance is _____. a physical property a chemical property a physical change a material property a characteristic property I think it's a physical change, because the characteristic of something can change its state. An example such as an element going from a solid to a liquid. Is this correct? Or does it mean transform chemically? MEDAL! please help :)

chemical property because it's changing to a new substance. if it was a physical property, only it's appearance would change. It's like cutting your hair. The appearance changes, but it's still hair. When you digest food, it is a chemical change because it turns into a new substance entirely.

I'm honestly not sure if that's what it was asking or not. The way it is worded is confusing.

the wording confused me as well! I guess the fact it becomes a new substance would indeed make it a chemical change.
