I'm doing this physics experiment tomorrow and i need help! The aim is to find the resultant of two forces....can anyone please give me a theory, discussion and conclusion for this lab??? i don't fully understand it:(

Forces add up. That's what this lab is about. I am sitting in a chair right now, with no acceleration. By Newton's 1st law, this means that I must have zero net force acting on me. But there's gravity. I exert a force of gravity on the chair under me. By Newton's 3rd law, the chair exerts an equal and opposite force on me. These two forces add up. The net force I experience is zero. Here's another example: a plane, is headed in the north direction. The thrust from the engines is a force in the north direction. Air resistance is a force in the south direction. Let's suppose there is a wind blowing as well from the east. This exerts a force on the plane in the west direction. The net force on the plane is the sum of these three forces and is in the north-west direction roughly.
