WILL GIVE MEDAL & FAN. What is the y intercept of the line given to the equation below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y= mx + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it says slope, not y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh* slope sorry !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so, using that general equation, find out what is m and what is b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you add 5 + 22 ? @Chelsea04

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, the equation is y=5x-22, that means that m is 5 and y is 22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right so do you subtract then ? :) @Chelsea04

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y is -22, sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's alright!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I meant b up there ^ not y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is where I get stumped :( lol do you add? since it's y= mx + b ? It's okayy :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh wait ! Do you multipy them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no! the general equation is y=mx+b m refers to the slope b refers to the y-intercept even if the equation is y=5x-22 it is the same as saying y=5x+(-22) so that means that m=5, and y=-22

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then is it 0,-22 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I thought we were talking about the slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yes, that is the y-intercept in ordered pairs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah! We are so the slope would be 5 :) @Chelsea04

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem, just tell me if you need any more help :)
